2016 Assessments

February 10th, 2016

Dear Parent(S)/Guardian(S),

It is time again for the annual spring assessments. During these high stakes exams it is really important that students and families stay informed about the schedule so everyone is prepared and ready to do their best.

All 9th grade students will be taking a PSAT exam February 24th 8 a.m. -12 p.m. February 24th is an early release Wednesday. All 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students will follow the early release schedule while freshmen are testing. All 9th grade students will be receiving a testing ticket with their testing location. The exam will take place between 8 a.m.-12 p.m., lunch will be served 12-12:30 p.m. It is important that students are on time for the exam. The PSAT will establish a baseline for college and career readiness. In addition, it provides teachers data on areas they should focus on with the students.

All 10th Grade students will be participating in a paper and pencil life science exam on Friday April 22nd. All 10th graders will receive a testing ticket prior to the exam indicating their testing location on campus. Students in 10th grade will test from 8:05 a.m. -10:05 a.m. All 9th, 10th , and 11th grade students will arrive on campus no earlier than 10 a.m. for a 10:20 a.m. 1st period start. There will be breakfast available in the morning at 7:15 am – 8 a.m. for the 10 grade students and again 10-10:30 a.m. for the other grades. All students (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th) will attend classes from 10:20 am – 3pm. It is important to note that once the 10th graders are done testing they will be expected to attend their classes for the day.

All 11th Grade students will participate in the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) online exam April 11th-21st. On Monday April 11thwe will have a regular AHS bell schedule. April 12th-21st we will be switching to a block format to accommodate the timing requirements for testing. The bell schedule will be posted to school loop. Teachers will also review the bell schedule with students in their classes. The CAASPP is on online exam in the areas of mathematics and English Language Arts. Please feel to visit school loop for additional testing information, links, and resources:

There is also excellent information on the CAASPP website: http://www.caaspp.org/

I know our students will be successful on these high stakes exams. Thank you for taking time to review the testing schedule with your student. It is critical that students are on time and in attendance for exams. Please remind your student that electronic devices will not be allowed to be out or visible during the exam. Go Panthers!

Sincerely,

Lindsay Wisely, Vice Principal

SBAC (Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium)

The Smarter Balanced Practice Tests provide a preview of the Smarter Balanced assessments, but do not reflect the full range of content that students may encounter on the actual assessments. As such, the practice tests should not be used to guide instructional decisions about students. No score reports are generated from the Practice Tests. The Practice Tests will be available through summer 2014.
